What is the difference between the open and closed cell Sponge Tapes?

Closed cell sponge tapes allow you to correctly size the gap you are working with and are more durable for doors and windows that are used often. The open cell sponge tape will let you have a quick fix until you can properly measure and fit the tape to the gap size.

Will double-sided tape stick to my window frame or molding?

The double-sided tape in Duck Brand window kits is recommended for painted wood, finished/varnished wood, aluminum and vinyl.

My indoor window shrink kit fell off...What happened?

The two most common reasons are: the surface wasn't clean before you applied the tape or the surface is too cold for the tape to stick. The surface should be 40°F or warmer to apply the tape.

Can I use the outdoor window kit inside?

No. The difference between our Outdoor Window Kit and Indoor Window Kit is the tape used for each application. The Outdoor Kit tape is much stronger. When used inside, it remains soft. Also, the tape may peel off paint/varnish when removed or leave a very sticky residue. The plastic film in both kits is the same, so using a hair dryer to shrink the Outdoor Kit film will work.

How can I help the tape stick to cold surfaces?

1. Heat the surface with a hair dryer.(When temperatures drop below 40 degrees Fahrenheit, adhesives tend to harden and won't stick.)
2. Firmly press the tape on to the surface before removing the release liner.
3. After removing the release liner, heat the tape with the hair dryer to soften the adhesive.
4. Position the plastic film over the window. Firmly press the plastic along the tape to secure it in place. Be careful not to over-shrink the film. This puts too much pressure on the tape and it will pull away from the window.

What is the easiest way to remove my window kit?

Before pulling of the plastic film get a hair dryer and heat up the area where the double sided tape is. This will soften the tape's adhesive. Once you've softened the adhesive pull off the plastic film. The adhesive will come off with the plastic film rather than staying behind on your window frame. Any residue that may be left behind you may use an Duck Brand Adhesive Remover. The key is to let the adhesive remover soak for about five to ten minutes.

What is the proper way to install the EPDM Seals (P Seal, D Seal, etc)?

When installing your EPDM Weatherstrip Seals, first measure the gap that you are trying to seal in your doorway. The flat edge should be against the vertical or horizontal framing for the door to shut against the thicker part of the seal.

What tape should be used around the Pipe Wrap?
